The Jewish cemetery in Dzierzgon (German: Christburg) is located about 1.7 km southwest of the city center, at the intersection of Słoneczna Street with the dirt road, which turns at a right angle about opposite house number 3. After about 170 meters on the left you will find the breakthrough in the cemetery wall between the trees.
.The place in the Pomeranian Voivodeship belonged to East Prussia from 1922-1939, before that, since the Polish partitions of 1772, it belonged to West Prussia. Despite considerable damage, today the cemetery is one of the best preserved Jewish cemeteries in the Pomorskie Voivodeship.
The cemetery was probably established around 1774. Initially, residents of Sztum (Stuhm), Malbork (Marienburg), Kwidzyn (Marienwerder) and even Elbląg (Elbing), where Jewish communities did not yet have their own cemeteries, were also buried there. It is surrounded by a wall of fieldstones and red bricks almost one meter high. Inside the walls are planted rows of large linden trees surrounding the rectangular plot. There is no gate; access is through a breach in the wall on the east side.
The cemetery was cared for by students of the John Paul II High School in Dzierzgon, who did basic cleaning work. Leszek Sarnowski, historian and district administrator, is also involved in the care of the cemetery.
