Josef Nathan Königsberger was born in Krefeld on February 17, 1837. His parents were Nathan Loeb Konigsdorfer and Johanna Herz Königsberger,née Reifenberg. He was married to Jeanette Königsberger,née Feibes, born May 20, 1845 in Lengerich. She was the daughter of Feibes Jacob and Elfriede Feibes of Lengerich. Josef Nathan and Jeanette Königsberger had 9 children. Karl Königsberger, born on January 20, 1872 was deported from Düsseldorf to Theresienstadt on July 25, 1942 and died in the Theresienstadt ghetto on January 18, 1943. Before moving from Krefeld to Aachen in 1885, Josef Nathan Königsberger was a partner in an artificial silk weaving mill in Krefeld. He rented 2 floors in a factory establishment in Burtscheid and founded a cloth factory. In 1888 he bought his own premises at Kapuzinerhäuschen and founded the " cloth factory at Kapuzinerhäuschen " together with his wife Jeanette. After the death of Josef Königsberger at the age of 60, his son Paul Königsberger took over the company. Later, another son - Maximilian Königsberger - joined the company. When Maximilian Königsberger died in 1926 at the age of 50-51, Paul Königsberger´s son Josef joined the company. When the Aryanization of Jewish companies and businesses was initiated in 1938 with the political decrees and restrictions, the capture and incarceration of Jewish men in prison and concentration camps was added to this after the Reich Pogrom Night. On November 21, 1938 Paul Königsdorfer and son Josef were arrested. Josef Königsberger only regained his freedom on payment of bail. However, he was arrested again later and taken to a concentration camp. The aim of these actions was to force those arrested to sell their businesses and emigrate abroad. The Aryanization of the cloth factory progressed. Finally, on February 9, 1939, the sale of the cloth factory took place, of course far below the real market value.
