The roots of the Landeshut Linen and Gebildweberei F.V.Grünfeld were laid by Falk Valentin with the establishment and opening of a first fashion, cut and white goods shop in July 1862 in Landeshut-Unter den Lauben am Markt.1873 F.V. Grünfeld expanded his business with a mail order business, with which he then also served a large customer base abroad. In 1871, Emanuel Stroheim, his brother-in-law from Hirschberg, joined the company as a partner.1875 M.V.Grünfeld became Royal Prussian Court Supplier.On 10.12.1888 the appointment as Royal Prussian Commissioner by Wilhelm I followed.The expansion of the mail order business made the move into a larger business building urgently necessary.1884 M.V.Grünfeld acquired a plot of land on Wallstra;e/Liebauer Stra;e with a garden and the meadowland in the continuation, on which the new business premises with adjoining weaving, sewing and embroidery shop were built.1889 A branch was opened in Berlin, which in 1928 became one of the most important department stores in Berlin.1925 saw the opening of a further branch in Cologne.On September 1, 1891, the two oldest sons, Ludwig and Heinrich, became co-owners of the company. the company Grünfeld could still celebrate the 75th year of its company foundation. The festivities were celebrated in the head office in Landeshut and also in the branches in Berlin and Cologne. But already in 1938 the end came for the Grünfeld company as a family business. Ludwig and Heinrich Grünfeld did not live to see the demise of the company; they had already died in 1929 and 1936 respectively. Ludwig Grünfeld's children emigrated to the USA. Ludwig Grönfeld's widow only made it as far as England after leaving Germany and died in London on January 12, 1948. Heinrich Grünfeld`s family emigrated to Israel.
His wife Margarete met the children only after the end of the war in Palästina.
