The Süskind family was originally based in Neuenhaus. Julius Süskind (b. 1888), however, operated a large used goods trade from Nordhorn, ranging from raw skins to industrial equipment. He lived with wife Ennegje, called „Emilie“, née Jakobs from Werlte as well as the children Siegfried (b. 1929) and Julie (called „Julchen“, b. 1930) the house in the Alkenstiege on the outskirts of the city center of Nordhorn.

After the pogrom night November 1938, immediately the children üwere brought over the border to Denekamp in the Netherlands. There they also went to school, had lessons with the teacher and local historian Dingeldein, who was widely known in the Netherlands. With the occupation of the Netherlands, the children fell into the hands of the persecutors of the Jews. During a deportation transport, Siegfried managed to jump off a truck and save himself with the help of resisters who offered him a hiding place. Julie, on the other hand, was transported to Westerbork and from there to Auschwitz, where she was murdered in 1944, at the age of 13.

The parents, who had remained in Nordhorn, were given permission to move to relatives in Neuenhaus, where they were eventually assigned to the local „Judenhaus“, the house of the van der Reis family. From there they were deported to the East in July 1942. According to files of the Federal Archives, they were in the Izbica/PL ghetto, a transit camp that usually forwarded the detainees to the Sobibor or Belzec extermination camps. However, there is no further trace of the Süskinds.

Son Siegfried returned to Nordhorn for a time after the war, but there he again experienced anti-Semitic attacks (broken windows) and then lived essentially in Frankfurt/M., where he died in 1985, until the end deeply shaken in body and soul.
