Wilhelm (William) Borchardt was 15 years old when he received the greeting card. He was born in Berlin on November 24, 1883, the son of Siegmund Salomon Borchardt, a paper wholesaler, and Hedwig Borchardt, née Berliner. The card was signed by his aunt Adele Bock and his aunt Kora Hirschfeld, both sisters of his father. Wilhelm was still living at home at this time. At least in the same house, because in the Berlin address book of 1900, his father Siegmund Borchardt is still listed at the address Friedrichstraße 226. Wilhelm married Ida Paderstein on May 18, 1911 in Berlin. The couple had 3 children - Kurt (24.3.1912), - Ilse ( 19.3.1915), - Rudolf Siegmund (19.5.1920). The family emigrated to America. Wilhelm Borchardt died in New York on March 3, 1968 at the age of 84. His wife Ida Borchardt died on November 20, 1992 at the age of 101 in Richmond, Virginia.
