The Falkenstein family originally came from Konitz in West Prussia. They moved to Gera only in 1906. The business, a textile shop of the Falkensteins was located in the 1906 newly built house at Johannisplatz 1 in Gera. The family lived in rent in Burgstraße 5. Theodor Falkenstein was a trained textile merchant and the business supported the whole family. The family had 2 children - Herbert and Anneliese. In 1938 Theodor Falkenstein, his wife Rosa Rosa and daughter Anneliese managed to escape to Melbourne in Australia. Son Herbert had already been in Melbourne since 1936. Rosa Falkenstein lived to see the liberation of Europe, but died in 1945. Theodor Falkenstein made his living as a laundryman in a dry-cleaning business. He followed his wife and died in 1951.
