The Carl Goldschmidt hat factory, consisting of a factory building and two residential buildings was built in 1922 according to plans by Karl Stodieck. Residents protested at the time against the construction, which was built in the direct line of Mendelsohn's hat factory. Today under monument protection.
Commerzienrat Carl Goldschmidt born Nov. 20, 1846, in Berlin; died Nov. 22, 1911, in Luckenwalde, was the first to take up the industrial production of wool hats in 1875 with the founding of his factory, and from 1877 also that of stiff hats. He founded a health insurance fund for the workers of his factory in 1876, and the municipal public kitchen in 1893. In 1911, he donated 30,000 marks to the city to establish an association for youth care.
His son Heinrich introduced hair hat manufacturing.
