Jewish elementary school Oldenburg

Ernst Beer was the last teacher of the Oldenburg Jewish Elementary School, which was closed in 1940. Beer was born on June 26, 1881, in Friedland, Märkisch. He was the son of the elementary school teacher Moritz Beer. Influenced by him, Ernst Beer trained as an elementary school teacher. On September 11, 1906 he married Anna Baruch (born March 13, 1869 in Söhren, died September 08, 1942 in Chełmno) in Bad Segeberg. On July 31, 1907, his son Samuel Beer was born (died April 11, 1972). Two daughters Lea (born February 18, 1909 in Bad Segeberg, died September 10, 1986 in New York) and Gitella (born February 18, 1913 in Bad Segeberg, died September 08, 1942 in Chełmno) followed. 

From 1906 to 1908 he worked as a teacher in Kruschwitz (Kruszwica). In 1908 he moved to Bad Segeberg. There he remained as a teacher until 1928. During this time, he resigned from his teaching position on March 31, 1910, because he had been denied the shechita fees and a salary increase. He went to Kassel, but very quickly returned to Bad Segeberg to resume his teaching position. In 1928 a teaching position took him to Leipzig for a year. From there he went to Quakenbrück until 1939, when he succeeded Moses Katzenberg at the Jewish elementary school in Oldenburg. His residence, however, remained in Quakenbrück. He traveled daily by train from his home to Oldenburg.
