The medieval Jewish community in Bingen did not yet have its own cemetery. Like the Rheingau Jews, the Bingeners brought their deceased to the cemetery in Mainz.

A Jewish cemetery in Bingen was not established until the 2nd half of the 16th century. In 1570 the Jewish community had acquired a small site on the hillside between woods and pastures far outside the city walls as a burial ground. According to the community memorandum book created in 1789, a first burial was made as early as 1562. The entrance to this cemetery was located in the southeast corner; the walled gate is still recognizable.
