Gabriel Michelbacher was a member of the Israelite Religious Administration for over 44 years. From 1884  he was a board member of the Israelite Kultusverwaltung for 33 years. In 1909 Gabriel Michelbacher celebrated his 25th anniversary as a Kultusvorstand of the Israelite community.

Gabriel Michelbacher was the son of master soap boiler Abraham Michelbacher and Sofie Michelbacher, née Bauer. He was born in Oettingen on June 25, 1840, and died on July 1, 1918. He is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Oettingen. Gabriel Michelbacher was married in his first marriage (September 3, 1867) to Johanna Michelbacher, née Waitzfelder. In his second marriage (February 15, 1870) he married Sara Michelbacher, née Ries. The couple had at least 13 children. Alfred Michelbacher, born in 1892 in Oettingen died on March 26, 1942 in the ghetto Riga - Jungfernhof. Thekla Michelbacher, married Mayer, born 1883 in Oettingen was deported to the Piaski Ghetto on March 25, 1942 and murdered.
