Karmeliterstraße 15
74072 Heilbronn
Germany
The origins of the company go back to 1861 when Max Landauer set up a distillery and liqueur factory in the Kirchhöfle in Heilbronn. When in 1866 the brother-in-law Leopold Macholl joined the company, it was named "Landauer & Macholl". In 1874 Leopold Macholl left the company to establish himself in Munich together with his brother. The company name Landauer & Macholl remained. With the construction of a new steam distillery and liqueur factory in 1876 in Karmeliterstraße 15, the company's product range was also increasingly expanded. In 1921 Ludwig and Theodor Landauer were the company owners. Fritz Landauer, a son of Ludwig was also involved from 1920. From 1925 he was the managing director, after Ludwig Landauer had died in 1925 and Theodor Landauer already in 1922. In 1931 the company belonged to Jenny, Fritz and Max Landauer. With the so-called " Aryanization " of Jewish businesses and enterprises, the Landauer's lost their property. From 1940 the company was registered under its new owner Georg l. Schürger as Hammer Brennerei - Schürger & Co. Kg. The factory facilities, most of which were destroyed during WW2, were returned to their rightful owners after the war. Reconstruction took place in 1950 and Fritz Landauer, who had survived the persecution and the war, again took over the company management until 1975.
