Friedrichstraße 15
90762 Fürth
Germany
Justus, Martin, Ludwig and Robert Ullmann were, among others, the owners of the company "Kurz- und Spielwaren en gros und Export Ullmann & Engelmann" in Fürth. The company had its headquarters in Fürth at Friedrichstraße 13-15 on the first floor. Justus Ullmann lived with his family in Friedrichstraße 15 on the 2nd floor. The company also had a branch in Berlin at Alexandrinenstraße 99, which was managed by Robert Ullmann. One special event in the history of the company in Fürth should also be mentioned. On December 4, 1866, King Ludwig II (Bavaria) made a surprise visit to Nuremberg, where in the morning the king, dressed in a splendid uniform, took a parade of the Nuremberg garrison, then rode on the Nuremberg Chaussee accompanied by two adjudants and two servants to Fürth, and after arriving at the Fürth town hall was received by the mayor and a cheering crowd, and accompanied by the magistrate went on foot to the synagogue, where he was welcomed with an address by Chief Rabbi Dr. Isaak Loewi, which visibly touched him. Afterwards, the king drove in a provided carriage through an illuminated city to the toy export company Ullmann & Engelmann to make some purchases. After the distribution of gifts, the journey continued back to Nuremberg along the old route of the Ludwig Railway. The naming of a steamship to the "Steamship Fürth" goes back to the written suggestion of the toy export business Ullmann & Engelmann. The cargo steamship was launched on July 20, 1907 and sailed the world's oceans from September 1907 to August 1914 under the name "Fürth". As a result of the First World War, the ship was seized by the British Navy and henceforth sailed the world's oceans under a different name and flag. In 1920 there was another change of ownership and name. In 1933, the cargo ship came to an end. It was scrapped after only 26 years of service.
