In der Barlage 41
49078 Osnabrück
Germany
1967 counted the community (the city with the entire government district of Osnabrück) only 64 members (25 lived in the city itself).
Despite all the difficulties and the small number of members decided the community to Osnabrück build a synagogue and a community center.
On December 11, 1967, the cornerstone was laid for a new building in the Straße In der Barlage. The building was constructed in orthodox style by the Frankfurt architect Hermann Zvi Guttmann. The hexagonal building with seats for men on the first floor and for women on two galleries faces east. On the eastern outer wall is a menorah.
The complex includes the adjacent community hall; residential buildings were built on the land in the rear.
In 1989, the Jewish community had 69 members. Due to the influx of mainly contingent refugees from the states of the former Soviet Union from 1991, the number of community members rose to 1125 in 2008.
The Jüdische community life in Osnabrück today offers a diverse range of courses (eg.(e.g. painting, computer and German courses), activities (e.g. Israeli dance, guitar learning studio) and various groups (e.g. women's club, choir, student club, creative club). In addition, the Jüdische Gemeinde Osnabrück has a very active children and youth center, called „Lev Echad". The children and youth of Lev Echad have already participated several times in Jewrovision, the largest singing and dancing competition for Jüdian youth in Europe. At the last competition in Dresden (2018) they reached fourth place with their performance.
