Jewish students and young Jewish adults in Germany have once again had official political representation since December 8, 2016. During the Community Day of the Central Council of Jews in Germany in Berlin, representatives of Jewish student initiatives founded the new national student union JSUD.
The purpose of JSUD is to unite all young Jewish adults in Germany for joint political work and representation of interests. Fighting all forms of racist, xenophobic, religious and political discrimination (especially anti-Semitism), dialogue with other cultures and faiths, as well as raising awareness and informing the non-Jewish public in Germany about Jewish issues are also part of JSUD's mission.
It is important to the Jewish student body to be a central and visible part of the public discourse, to openly speak out against anti-democratic voices, and thus to collectively empower society.
As one of the most active and member-strongest Jewish communities in Europe, Germany has with the JSUD a young Jewish voice present inwardly as well as outwardly. It is the supraregional representation of more than 25,000 young Jews between the ages of 18 and 35.
