Witt, Ernst Alfred

Ernst Alfred Witt was born in Berlin on December 19, 1910, the son of Hugo Jakob Witt, a textile merchant, and his wife Anna, née Cohn. He had an older brother Hans. The family had lived at Landshuter Strasse 38 since 1931. His father was the owner of the Feld und Goldschmidt company, which manufactured women's ready-to-wear clothing at Kronenstrasse 48. In 1925 his father died, Ernst Alfred completed an apprenticeship as a textile merchant, probably in Danzig. From there, in fact, he moved to Rotterdam in 1931. He is said to have married there and had a daughter.
