Anna Elisabeth Michaelis was born in Berlin on February 12, 1888, the daughter of Reinhard and Rosa Michaelis, both parents were Jews. She married the judge Dr. Martin Matzdorf, the first daughter Eva Liesbet Rosa Viktoria was born on December 24, 1914 in Berlin, the second daughter Hilda Amalie Marianne Gertie was born on August 25, 1920 in Guben. In 1926 her husband was transferred to Berlin, which pleased Anna Elisabeth Matzdorf in particular, because her parents lived in Berlin. She was also artistically talented, she was educated at the School of Arts and Crafts, she visited the National Gallery and other art exhibitions, she also took her daughters to them. The family belonged to the liberal community in Berlin and attended the synagogue in Prinzregentenstraße. In 1939, both daughters were able to emigrate to England, but on November 1, 1942, Anna Elisabeth Matzdorf and her husband had to give up their apartment at Fregestraße 78 and move in as subtenants with the Jewish Max Gutter at Kirchstraße 25 (today Schmiljahnstraße). On December 14, 1942, Mr. and Mrs. Matzdorf were deported to Auschwitz, where they were murdered at an unknown date. In 2013, both daughters were still alive: Hilda with her daughter Lydia in Harrow, Middlesex, and Eva in Munich.
