Gertrude Heinsius was born in Berlin on October 18, 1885. Her father, Paul Philipp Eger came from Breslau; he died in 1918 in an asylum in Berlin-Buch. In 1919 she married Georg Heinsius in Frankfurt / Main. She learned as the profession of a teacher. In 1922 their son Fritz Werner was born in Berlin-Neukölln. Around 1928 the Heinsius family moved to Berlin-Baumschulenweg to Baumschulenstr. 90/91. In this house her husband also had his medical practice, it can be assumed that she took care of the administrative work. In 1933 and in the following years, the Heinsius couple was boycotted and harassed with regard to their Jewish faith in Baumschulenweg. Subsequently, her husband was subjected to multiple denunciations and police interrogations, so that a few weeks later the Heinsius couple decided to emigrate to the USA. To do so, they booked the moving company Kopania & Co. from Berlin-Steglitz, which still exists today. However, as with many others, the removal goods were confiscated by the Gestapo and later auctioned off. On June 29, 1939, she and her husband emigrated to the USA. However, a hoped-for new professional start was not possible for him. Without his medical practice objects and without cash assets, he took his own life in an act of despair on December 23, 1943, after many disappointments. Gertrude Heinsius kept her head above water in the USA as a secretary in various medical practices in New York. Due to her age, her condition increasingly deteriorated. On 07.08.1965 Gertrude Heinsius died at the age of 80 years in New York.
