Wolf Felix Wilhelm Baum was born in Samter (Szamotuly, northwest of Poznan) on Aug. 27, 1875, the son of the master tailor Moritz Baum and his wife Frieda, née Mendel. At the age of 15, he came to Berlin, where he established a wholesale button business in 1906, first in Klosterstraße, later in Spandauer Straße, and finally, from 1936, in Heiligegeiststraße. It must have been a thriving business that lasted until its liquidation in 1939. After the November pogroms, Wolf Felix Baum was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen for several months. In the fall of 1941, he was expelled together with his wife Martha and her sister Hedwig Sass from the apartment they shared at Meraner Str. 8. The apartment was assigned to an officer. Mr. and Mrs. Baum and Mrs. Sass were forcibly quartered in the house at Nymphenburger Str. 4 with Mrs. Pauline Borchardt, where, in addition to them and Mrs. Borchardt, their long-time subtenant Ilse Schiftan lived. On January 19, 1942, Mr. and Mrs. Baum and Hedwig Sass were deported to Riga and, if they survived the transport, were presumably murdered immediately after their arrival there.
