Basch, Heinz Hermann

Heinz Hermann Basch was born in Posen on April 25, 1920, the second child of Sigismund Basch and his wife Herta, née Berlowitz. His older sister was Hildegard. The family moved to Berlin and lived in a 6-room apartment at Lutherstraße 51 (now Keithstraße 14). His father lost his job during the economic crisis, so he had to earn a living as a salesman for Minimax fire extinguishers. Heinz Hermann Basch was originally a fashion and advertising draftsman by profession and was employed as a test smelter for forced labor at the aluminum smelter Emil Schmidt GmbH; his sister Hildegard emigrated to England in 1939.
