* February 12, 1893 as Ilse Frenkel in Berlin - Ilse Frenkel married the chemist Dr. Ernst Wassermann at the age of 21. In 1919 the eldest son Hans Georg was born, two years later his brother Rolf. The family lived first on Kaiserdamm, then on Hardenbergstrasse. Ernst Wassermann founded a chemical factory in Kreuzberg. He died in 1925 at the age of 45. Shortly before his death, he had bought a house and property in Pichelsdorfer Mahnkopfweg, where his widow and children then lived. The son Hans Georg went to England in 1937, his brother Rolf was sent to Switzerland in 1938; thus they were able to escape Nazi persecution. Ilse Wassermann remained in Spandau, although her sisters and also her husband's relatives left Germany for the saving foreign country. She had to perform forced labor at the Hugo Reinz company on Brunsbütteler Damm.
