Alemannia Judaica

In 1928, the "New Cemetery" was inaugurated after years of planning and the construction of a large ceremonial hall with a huge concrete dome. It is located in the district of Eutrizsch. In 1938 the hall was set on fire, a year later it was blown up. In 1955, they built a new hall, but it was much smaller than the old structure.

The oldest cemetery, which no longer exists today, was founded in 1814 south of the present city center in Johannistal. He is today built over by clinics of the University of Leipzig. This cemetery existed until 1864 and was dissolved in 1936 by order of the municipality. The bones and some of the gravestones were moved to the cemetery on Delitzscher Straße.

On the history of the small Jewish community of Jáchymov - with the historical designation 'synagogue community Alt-Grimnitz' - very little information is available.

The Jewish cemetery was inaugurated on 26.06.1881 by Rabbi Willstätter from Karlsruhe. Present were high-ranking representatives of  Grand Ducal and municipal authorities, the Catholic and Protestant city pastor, as well as many residents of Rastatt.

On 19.10.1941, the official order was issued by the Nazi regime, starting from the Rastatt District Office, to close the cemetery. The letter also referred to a decree of the Minister of the Interior.

In 1905, the Reingold steam laundry was opened by Adolf de Beer and his wife Mathilde at Hochheiderweg 3 in Oldenburg. The Reingold company had over 200 acceptance points in the Oldenburg region and East Frisia. At a time when washing machines were not yet available, the laundry represented a great relief of work in the households. Tasks such as sorting, soaking, boiling, folding and ironing the laundry were taken over by the de Beers' family business. The husband and wife worked in the laundry; in addition, Mathilde took care of the children and the household.
