He had a younger brother Heinz Joachim, who was also born in Breslau on March 11, 1930. From 1937 Klaus Ulrich Freund lived with his parents and brother at Heilbronner Straße 21. Jakob (also Jacob) Marek was born on January 27, 1907 in Nowy Sącz (German: Neu Sandez). On May 19, 1944 he was deported to Auschwitz, from there he went to the concentration camp Stutthof on October 28, 1944, already on November 17, 1944 he was deported to Echterdingen, a subcamp of the concentration camp Natzweiler. He was further deported to Ohrdruf, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp, between January 20 and 30, 1945.
