Gustav Gatzke was born on July 25, 1870 in Nimptsch in the district of Bromberg in West Prussia. His profession was listed as machine cleaner, he also worked as a locomotive heater. Gustav Gatzke was the father of eight children. He lived at Eythstraße 69 in Berlin-Schöneberg. In 1940 he was incapacitated because of his alcoholism. When his wife died in 1944, he was taken to the Wittenau sanatoriums in January of that year.

Hermann Bry was born in on August 23, 1872 in Schrimm (now Poland). In 1926, he was first named as the owner of the "Kaufhaus Hermann Bry" at Baumschulenstraße 12; his home address was Rodelbergweg 12. His business was the target of the boycott of Jewish stores on April 1, 1933. Hermann Bry died of a stroke in 1935 at the age of 63 and was buried in the Jewish Cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee in section N7. From 1935, his wife Emma Bry took over the business in Baumschulenstraße.
