The religious school was called Israelitische Volksschule from 1873. In 1881, it had 18 pupils, including two Christian children.
To take care of religious duties of the community was a teacher employed, who also acted as a prayer leader and shochet. Karl Marx (1824-1910), a teacher and prayer leader, had a formative influence on Jewish community life throughout the second half of the 19th century: His four-part synagogue choir with a repertoire of, among other things, classical-liturgical chants was known far beyond Alsheim. Marx also played a major role in the life of the entire village of Alsheim for decades: among other things, he had founded the Sängerbund (today's MGV Eintracht Alsheim?) and was its conductor for decades. In various supra-regional teachers' associations he was on the board.
