The cemetery is located in the Napptal, north of the town; it can be reached via the B 85 in the direction of Kelbra, Kyffhäuserdenkmal. About 1 km outside the town branches off an access road with the inscription "Gasthaus Sennhütte". Directly opposite the inn is the Jewish cemetery.

The Jewish cemetery of Bad Frankenhausen, which still exists today, was established in 1852, after the dead of the Jewish families of Frankenhausen had been buried in an older cemetery on the Schlachtberg until then (the exact location of this cemetery is no longer known). The cemetery, which was established in 1852, was desecrated as early as 1884 and partially destroyed during the Nazi era. The cemetery area covers about 2.50 ares. The plot is surrounded by a massive wooden picket fence. After 1945 the cemetery was desecrated in 1954 and 1979. The perpetrator of 1979 has been identified. There is a memorial stone in the cemetery, standing to the left of the entrance in the center of the cemetery, with the inscription (Hebrew Jiskor - remember): "In memory of the dead who rest here in peace."
