In the second half of the 18th century a "Judenschule" (= prayer room, synagogue) is mentioned (1786). It stood on today's property Fronstraße 19. The house was demolished in 1965, the property was redeveloped.

A new synagogue was built at the latest in the middle of the 19th century (mentioned in a citizens' list in 1854 together with the upper and lower Jewish baths). This synagogue was located on today's property Wonnegaustraße 50. The Jewish community owned this property already in 1846. Since the number of Jewish inhabitants had decreased, regular services could probably no longer be held in Abendheim as early as around 1880. With the dissolution of the Jewish community in 1901 the synagogue inventory was sold. In an advertisement that appeared several times in 1901 in the magazine "Der Israelit", three Torah scrolls, six subsellia (rows of benches from the prayer hall) and other furnishings were offered for other congregations.

The synagogue building was sold and rebuilt. However, it was preserved. From 1945 to 1995, the building, no longer recognizable as a synagogue, housed the community's post office.
