A synagogue was not present in Heppenheim for a long time. People met for services and prayers in private houses, before the construction of the synagogue last in the property Wormser Landstraße 24, which belonged to Mrs. Jakob Männchen. A lease agreement with the Jewish community regulated in 1907 the transfer of a room in the side building of their estate. Nevertheless, there was a desire to build a synagogue. The then board members Moritz Klein, Salomon Mayer and David Salomon tried to find a new solution.
Since 1908 the former synagogue (built in 1847) of the Jewish community in Horchheim, last used by the Protestant church, stood empty. The building was put up for sale. 1911 the Jewish community in Heppenheim managed to purchase the former synagogue for 2,000 marks. The building was demolished and all usable material was brought to Heppenheim. As a building site had been able to acquire a previously belonging to Mathilde Tryfuß field (Obere Grabenstraße / Dorfgrabenstraße 103, Flur I, No. 136).
The solemn consecration of the synagogue was on 17/18 November 1911. The synagogue was - as in Horchheim - created as a solid building with a rectangular floor plan and carried a gable roof. There were three high windows in the southern longitudinal wall. The entrance portal was on the west side.
During November pogrom in 1938 the synagogue was burned down and demolished a little later. The property passed into private ownership and is newly built over. There is no commemorative or memorial plaque.
