In 1741 the Jewish community bought a house on the property Östlicher Graben 19. On it 1749-57 a synagogue was built. The building was renovated several times until the 20th century. The character as a late Baroque synagogue building was preserved. To this day, a wooden flat barrel of the prayer hall decorated with stucco rosettes can be seen In the course of the 19th century, the synagogue was renovated several times and adapted to the needs of the time. Among other things 1879 the gas was introduced for the installation of a new lighting, which is why the former candlesticks could be given away cheaply.
In the 1890s, the community planned to build a new synagogue. However, due to limited financial resources, the plan could not be implemented. So it was decided to carry out a comprehensive interior renovation, which was carried out in the summer of 1899 . In February 1900, the renovation could be completed with an inauguration of the last rituals. This was reported by the magazine "Der Israelit" in its issue of March 8, 1900.
Until 1938 the synagogue served as the religious center of the Jewish community.
At November pogrom 1938 the interior was completely destroyed, the harmonium thrown from the gallery; the files and Torah scrolls were burned on Luitpoldplatz. In May 1939 the district economic advisor sold the property for RM 2,000. After that, the previous Jewish place of worship was misused as a storage room. The windows were partially bricked up. In the 1970s, the building was to be demolished, but the decision was not implemented. The building was rebuilt into a commercial building in 1979-81. On the first floor, the building structure was interfered with by the installation of arcades. In 1986, the facade and vaults were placed under monument protection. On November 10, 1988, the installation of a commemorative plaque took place.
