The New Jewish Cemetery in Munich is located in the Freimann district. After it was already foreseeable in the 1880s that the old cemetery could no longer be expanded, a suitable site was sought for the new construction of a cemetery. In 1904, such a site was found on Ungererstrasse. The cemetery could be occupied from July 1, 1908. Today the cemetery covers an area of more than 5 hectares and has 22 grave sections. It is surrounded by a total of 966.50 m long concrete wall. Among others, the following personalities lie in this New Jewish Cemetery: the politician Kurt Eisner (1867-1919), the writer Gustav Landauer (1870-1919) and the politician Eugen Leviné (1883-1919). The cemetery building was built in 1905-07 by Hans Grässel. This cemetery is still used today as the burial place of the Jewish Community of Munich.
