Two Jewish cemeteries still exist today in the city of Lippstadt. These are the cemetery of the Jewish community of Lipperode in the present-day district of Lipperode and the burial ground in the Lippstadt central cemetery on Lipperoder Straße. Another Jewish cemetery existed in the area of today's Burgstraße and was abandoned by the Lippstadt city administration in 1914. The latter is the oldest Jewish burial place in the city area, it was probably already used before 1700 for the burial of the relatives of the Jewish army supplier Benedict Elias Gumpertz, he himself was buried here in 1708.
