Massener Straße
59423 Unna
Germany
The Jewish history of Unna goes back to the 13th century. In the 19th century, the Jewish community experienced an upswing and established, among other things, its own synagogue and a Jewish school. In 1854 the Jewish synagogue community was officially founded in Unna. In the same year, the community acquired a plot of land on Massener Straße and established its cemetery there.
In front of the cemetery at the corner of Massener Straße/Beethovenring are memorial stones in memory of the murdered Jüdische Bürger of the city. The inscription reads: „In memory of the synagogue community of Unna, which was forcibly dissolved by the National Socialists in 1938. In memory of the Jewish citizens of our town who became victims of National Socialist tyranny in the years 1933-1945. City of Unna.“
