Am Brückhof
47877 Willich
Germany
Documentary evidence of settlement of Jews in Anrath exists since the middle of the 17th century. The cemetery in Anrath was established before 1800 and served not only the small community of Anrath, but also the deceased Jews from Neersen. Since 1970, the districts of Anrath and Neersen belong to the city of Willich.
During the Nazi period, the cemetery grounds passed out of the hands of the Jewish community and into municipal hands. Several gravestones were used as building material. Today the cemetery is a protected monument. In the cemetery there are gravestones for deceased from the years 1810-1906. In front of the cemetery there is a memorial plaque in memory of the murdered citizens of Anrath since 2011. None of the 13 Jewish inhabitants of the village survived.
