Freigericht

Freigericht is a rural community in the Main-Kinzig district of Hesse. It is located directly on the Bavarian border. The municipality of Freigericht is not to be confused with the historical region of Freigericht Alzenau, to which, in addition to the Hessian municipality of Freigericht, quite a few now Bavarian communities or districts belonged.

Until the Second World War, there was a small Jewish community with its own synagogue in the Somborn district. In the pogrom night on November 9, 1938, it was saved by the intervention of the mayor of Somborn and also survived the turmoil of war. Later the building was converted into a residential house.
