Beschreibung
The Berlin-Guben hat factory, founded in 1859 by Apelius Cohn in Berlin, opened a branch in Guben in 1876. This period also saw the construction of the representative factory owner's villa at the old Poststraße 61. The property on the opposite side of the street to the hat factory.

Its first resident and commercial manager was Hermann Lewin until 1920.

After his death, Dr. Alexander Lewin took over as general manager. By 1922, the company and its branches had grown to become the largest hat manufacturer in Germany.

After the Nazis took power, the Jewish Lewin family had to leave Germany, leaving behind all their possessions.

Until May 29, the factory operated under the name "Berlin-Gubener Hutfabrik AG, vorm. A.Cohn". Then the name addition "vorm. A.Cohn" was deleted.

After the end of the war, the Guben hat industry was never able to fully return to its heyday.

Until the reunification of the two German states, the factory and the factory villa belonged to the "VEB Gubener Wolle". The villa was recently renovated and turned into a retirement home.
