Alsheim

In Alsheim there was a Jewish community until the 1930s. Its origin goes back to the time of the 16th century . Jews were admitted for the first time in 1529. In 1550, four Jewish families were mentioned in the village. However, the number of Jewish families remained small until the end of the 18th century. Although three Jewish families were counted in 1722, and six in 1743, the number declined again to two families by 1799 The formation of a community occurred in the middle of the 18th century. Due to emigration and emigration, the number of Jewish inhabitants of Alsheim declined since the end of the 19th century. The Jewish families lived especially from the trade with wine, but also from agriculture.
