Malka (1879 Poland-1969 New York) and Marcus (1872 Poland-1955 New York) Mandel once lived here with their eight children: Samuel, Myrna, Rose, Bertha, Jean, Hermann, Leo and Gustl. Samuel died as a child. Myrna and Rose emigrated to the USA before the war and Berta to England. Jean survived in Poland and Russia and returned to Fürth, where he became chairman of the Jewish community for many years and a senator in the Bavarian Senate. Hermann survived the Shoah in Morocco. Gustl was deported to Poland with her brother Leo, his wife Bertha and their son Jackie and murdered. Malka and Marcus were also deported to Poland, but thanks to the efforts of their daughter Bertha, they were able to leave for England in 1937. After 1945, they lived in the USA.
In 2018, the Mandel family and the city of Fürth had a memorial plaque laid in the ground at Marktplatz 8.
