50 years after Adolf Hirsch built the new department store "Hermann Tietz Nachfolger" in 1900 - 1901, it became the property of "Hertie Waren- und Kaufhaus GmbH" (from 1994 Karstadt, currently "Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof") after its forced sale to the Brandl company.
By 1961, the former premises of the former Hirsch department store (Theaterstr. 55 - 57) were moved to the building on Wittstra<e/Ländtorplatz, which still exists today. The former building in Theaterstraäe, which was completely rebuilt after the war, housed the "Hertie-Sporthaus" until the "noughties" and is currently home to the perfume chain "Douglas".
In a way, you could say: Since the Hertie company goes back to the (Jewish) founders Hermann (and Oscar) Tietz and the Hirsch department store was also founded by a (Jewish) merchant (Adolf Hirsch) and was established as the managing director of the company; The circle closes when the former Hirsch/Landauer family business becomes a branch of Hertie from 1951 onwards.
