You’ve probably heard the phrase “the banality of evil.” It was coined by Hannah Arendt, a political theorist, writer, and philosopher, while observing the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem. Her thesis sparked enormous controversy and is still discussed to this day.
Students at the Potsdam secondary school Hannah Arendt Gymnasium learned about Arendt’s life and work at the Deutsches Historisches Museum and helped work on the special exhibition on the famous philosopher currently showing at the German Historical Museum. The students and their teacher shared some of their results with Jewish Places. Please take a look at Hannah Arendt’s biography on our website – from her birthplace in Hanover through her university days in Marburg and Heidelberg and her flight to Paris and emigration to New York.

And if you’d like to explore further, the exhibition Hannah Arendt and the Twentieth Century is running until mid-October.
