Dr.Siegfried Goldschmidt was born on February 19, 1877 in Witzenhausen. The parents were the merchant Hirsch Goldschmidt and Julie "Julchen" Goldschmidt, née Spangenthal. After studying medicine and earning his doctorate, he worked as a general practitioner and neurologist in Frankfurt am Main.In 1911, Dr. Siegried Goldschmidt founded the Taunus Sanatorium ( Dr. Goldschmidt Sanatorium ), whose target group was primarily Jewish spa patients in Bad Homburg. The sanatorium ran a kosher kitchen and opened its own synagogue in the spa building in 1928. Dr. Siegfried Goldschmidt directed the sanatorium until 1926, when he succumbed to a heart attack on July 26, 1926. After Dr. Siegfried Goldschmidt's sudden cardiac death, his widow Sheva (Batsheva), née Abramov, continued the sanatorium together with the physician Dr. Joshua O. Leibowitz, supported by her parents, her sister and a sister-in-law. Dr. Siegfried Goldschmidt's first wife Sofie, née Dülken died already on June 8, 1921 in Gonzenheim. The couple remained childless.1923 Dr. Siegried Goldschmidt married a second time ( Batschewa,née Abramow). From this marriage two children were born. A son and a daughter (Rivka Horwitz, born Nov. 1926). The increasing strength of National Socialism made the continuation of a Jewish sanatorium impossible in the long run. In 1935, Dr. Joshua Otto Leibowitz left the sanatorium and emigrated to Palestine via France. In 1937, the sanatorium was closed down and used for the central school of the Reichsbahn. From 1947 to 1952 it housed the financial administration of the American-British Bizone. From 1952-1998 was then the seat of the Federal Equalization Office in it.
