The Ferdinand Gamburg Lodge LXXII No. 654 U.O.B. was the Hanau lodge of the Independent Order B'nai B'rith. On January 16, 1910, lodge brothers founded the lodge in honor of the late benefactor. In 1937, the Lodge was dissolved.
In 1888, the Frankfurt Jewish benefactress Betty Gumpertz founded an infirmary for the chronically ill and the needy; it combined care for the sick, the disabled, the elderly and the poor under one roof. The Conservative-Jewish institution was run in a strictly ritualistic manner, but the statutes also provided for the admission of non-Jews. Between 1888-1892, Ferdinand Moritz Gaburg (1835-1892) was the founding chairman and first president of the Gumpertz'schen Siechenhaus. he was also a co-founder and mentor of the Frankfurt lodge of the B'nai B'rith order.
B’nai B’rith (Hebräish בני ברית; German „Söhne des Bundes“), also Bnai Brith or in German-speaking countries until the time of National Socialism Unabhängiger Orden Bne Briss (U.O.B.B.) or Bnei Briß called, is a Jüdische organization. It was founded in 1843 in New York as a secret lodge by zwölf Jewish immigrants from Germany and is dedicated to the promotion of tolerance, humanit t and welfare, according to its self-portrayal. Another goal of B’nai B’rith is to educate about Judaism and education within Judaism. Currently, there are about 500,000 organized members in approximately 60 states. After World War II the Order re-established itself in the Federal Republic of Germany.
