Jewish House of Culture / Duo NIHZ

Bobby Rootveld (guitar, vocals, percussion) and Sanna van Elst (vocals, recorder, melodica, glockenspiel) play together since 2001 (sometimes with son Levi) under the name „DUO NIHZ“. The name is derived from Dutch and is an abbreviation for „Niet In Het Zwart“ (= Not In Black Clothes). Both performers studied at the Artez Conservatory in Enschede/NL. Originally based in the Netherlands, since 2010 they own a permanent home with concert hall, gallery and course center.

Their repertoire includes works from different eras, from the Renaissance to the modern avant-garde, as well as from different cultures: jazz, pop, rock, Spanish and Jüdische music. For several years, Jewish music has been the special focus of the duo, especially they lift musical treasures from compositions that were created in concentration camps.

The Haus an der Mittelstraße hosts many different concerts with international artists, noteworthy especially the regular guitar and flute festivals.
