The donor of the fountain was Karl Waitzfelder, a son of Levi Waitzfelder, a banker and hop wholesaler originally active in Nördlingen since 1861, who moved his business to Maximilian Strasse in Munich around 1885. Along with his brother, Kommerzienrat Theodor Waitzfelder, Karl Waitzfelder was co-owner of the Munich banking house Levi Waitzfelder.

The origins of the Waitzfelder family go back to Hoenle Salomon, who had moved from Aufhausen near Bopfingen in Württemberg to Mönchsdeggingen in the Ries around 1766. One of his sons, the former leather merchant Salomon Löw Waitzfelder, is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Mönchsdeggingen. A grandson of Salomon Löw Waitzfelder was finally Levi Waitzfelder.
