Rheintorstraße 3

The Blue House is a memorial and educational site for the history of the Jews on the Upper Rhine. Events and educational offerings at the authentic site recall the life of Jewish communities, the coexistence of Christians and Jews, as well as the violent end during the Nazi dictatorship in 1940 and establish contemporary references.
"We need places of concrete remembrance" (Landtag President Peter Straub, January 2000). That is why the Förderverein became active, acquiring the former Jewish community center in Breisach am Rhein to preserve and use it for the city and its visitors. The authenticity of a place - as the experience of memorial sites teaches - allows history to become vivid in the present so that we can learn from it. Within its walls, more than 700 years of history come to life.
