The W. Michael Blumenthal Academy is located across the street from the Jewish Museum Berlin at Fromet-und-Moses-Mendelssohn-Platz in the former flower market hall of Kreuzberg.
The building was opened in November 2012 as the "Academy of the Jewish Museum Berlin" and houses our library with a reading room open to the public, our archive with its numerous family collections, the Klaus Mangold Auditorium used for events, and seminar and workshop rooms where educational programs for children, young people and teachers* take place. In addition, inside the building is the "Garden of the Diaspora", a space of exchange and reflection that deals with the aspects of life in dispersion.
The transformation of the former Blumengroßmartkhalle was carried out by Daniel Libeskind. In his architectural concept, he picks up the figure of the cube, which he used before several times in the museum ensemble.
In January 2016, the Academy was named after the founding director of the Jewish Museum Berlin in W. Michael Blumenthal Academy .
