Wollmatinger Straße
78467 Konstanz
Germany
In the Middle Ages, there is no evidence of a Jewish cemetery in Constance. The dead of the community were probably buried in Überlingen.
In the 19th century, the dead of the community were initially buried in Gailingen or Randegg.
In 1869, the Jewish community of Constance established its own cemetery as part of the municipal cemetery on Wollmatinger Straße. The first buried were: Raphael Prohzahn (merchant from Prague, d. December 8, 1870), Maier Bloch (merchant from Constance, d. May 21, 1872), Salomon Kaufmann (Constance, d. June 14, 1872), Jakob Frank (merchant from Worblingen, d. July 18, 1872), Maier Berwanger (teacher from Constance, d. January 6, 1874).
The Jewish cemetery was not destroyed during the Nazi period and is occupied to this day (second extension after 1945, third extension in 1981)
.
The area is 24.93 ar.
