Schlossplatz 7
79312 Emmendingen
Germany
The opening of the Jewish Museum Emmendingen took place on April 13, 1997. The museum was established in the restored mikveh building. In the house was once the apartment of the synagogue servant. In the basement, the listed immersion bath is still preserved (built between 1837 and 1843 and used until around 1900).
On the first floor there is an exhibition on the history of the Jewish community of Emmendingen 1716-1940 and a documentation of the fate of the Emmendingen Jews during the Nazi dictatorship. Numerous exhibits on Jewish religious and everyday life are available. The Jewish festivals in the course of the year are explained. A reading and seminar room with literature and videos on Judaism and Jewish history can be found on the upper floor.
.The Jewish Museum Emmendingen sees itself as a place of remembrance, commemoration, learning and encounter with Jewish life in modern times. In November 2017, a new permanent exhibition was inaugurated in the former Jewish ritual baths.
