Hostel for poor Jews | Simon von Lämml Foundation
The house Na Bojišti 1516/16, which belonged to the Simon von Lämml Foundation, housed an institution that accommodated poor Jews. The artist and staunch Zionist Robert Guttmann lived here from 1930 until he was summoned for deportation in 1941. On October 16, 1941, he was deported on the first transport of Jews from Prague to the Łódź (Litzmannstadt) ghetto, where he died of starvation in 1942.
Women's Aid Society of the Jewish Community
On Kunnerwitzer Stra;e, at the house number 17 will be laid at the end of the year another Stolpersteine.
In memory of Amanda Hannes (1861-1942). Amanda was the chairwoman of the women's auxiliary club of the jüdische Gemeinde. She had to leave her apartment and spent with other remaining Görlitzer Jews in the "Judenhaus" on Jakobstra;e until the deportation to Tormersdorf.
Amanda was the chairwoman of the Women's Aid Society of the Jewish community, and her letters show us that this charity extended not only to Jewish women in Görlitz, but throughout Silesia.
School for poor Jewish boys (Hamburg)
In 1783, the first school for poor Jewish boys was established.
Tabernacle for widows (Neukalen)
The Israelite community of Neukalen was able to build a synagogue in Wasserstraße in 1843, thanks to a donation from descendants of Neukalen Jews. Next to the synagogue, the tabernacle for widows was built at the same time. In 1899 both houses were sold due to their poor condition. The Stiftshaus was preserved, but was no longer used by the local Jewish community, which had already dissolved in 1900. The tabernacle house for widows was renovated in 2009.
