Windgasse Synagogue (Wanfried)
In the 1880s, the Jewish community planned to build a new synagogue. The decision to build the new synagogue was made on April 24, 1887. It was to be built on the same site as the previous synagogue; the latter was demolished in 1889. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new synagogue took place on May 20, 1889, and the cornerstone was laid on July 18, 1889. It was built according to the plans of the district inspector Büchling in Eschwege by master mason Gustav Besser. The cost was 10,500 marks. Rentier Philipp Ehrlich Sr. donated a valuable chandelier for the synagogue.
