In 1987, the building was completely demolished after an arson attack accompanied by Nazi and anti-Semitic graffiti" (Brocke, Schwarz, 1999) The attack took place in February 1984. The Jewish community of Dusseldorf had previously declared: "In order to prevent any misuse, the demolition of the building would, in our opinion, be the best solution".
