It is the residence of the former head of the Jewish community in Rheindahlen, Moses Strauß. After the incorporation of Rheindahlen into the municipality of Gladbach, the Jewish community built its new prayer room here. It was a large and spacious room, which was sufficient for the small Jewish congregation (about 20 members). For Rheindahlen, a prayer room rented by the congregation has been handed down since 1843, which is said to have been located at the corner of Rennestraß/ Am Mühlentor.
